Does MagSafe Work with an E-Ink iPhone Case? Charging and Magnetic Accessories, Explained
Share
If you're choosing an iPhone case with an E-Ink screen on the back, one of the first questions is: does MagSafe still work? Here's an honest answer for the Keefrash E-Ink case.
The short answer: charging works, magnetic accessories attach but the hold is weaker
| Use | Works? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Charging with a MagSafe charger | Yes | Charge without removing the case. |
| MagSafe wallets and card holders | Partly | They snap on with a noticeable magnetic feel, but the hold is weaker than a standard case and they may slip off. |
| Holding the iPhone on a magnetic car mount or stand | No | Magnets alone can't hold the weight of your iPhone with the case on. |
Why the magnetic hold is weaker
A Keefrash case has an E-Ink screen and a small circuit board built into the back. That adds thickness between your iPhone and a MagSafe accessory, and magnetic force drops as that distance grows. To make up for it, we added a ring of magnets inside the case, so accessories still snap on with a clear magnetic feel.
We stopped there on purpose. Magnets that are too strong can leave a dark ring on the E-Ink display. We chose a clean screen over maximum holding power.
What is the Keefrash E-Ink case?
- A 4.0-inch E-Ink screen that shows black, white, red, and yellow
- With your iPhone in the case, choose an image in the Keefrash app and tap "Projection" — the image updates in about 10–15 seconds
- No battery. The image stays on the screen without power
Show fan art, your pet, a lucky charm, or a QR code for your social profile, and change the back of your phone whenever you like.
Who it's for
- You want to keep using your MagSafe charger
- You want the back of your phone to say something about you
If you need to mount your phone in the car, we recommend a clip-style or clamp-style holder instead of a magnetic one.
FAQ
Can I charge with a MagSafe charger?
Yes. You can charge without removing the case.
Can I use a MagSafe wallet?
It snaps on, but the hold is weaker than a standard case. It may come off when you take your phone in and out of a bag or pocket, so we don't recommend it for things you can't afford to lose.
Does the case need charging?
No. The case draws power from your iPhone's NFC only while the image is being written, and the image stays on without power.
Which iPhones are supported?
iPhone 18 Pro / 18 Pro Max, iPhone 17, 16, and 15 series (selected models), and iPhone 14 Plus / 14 Pro Max. See the product page for the full list.
